Healthy School Meals
We know how important good food is for your child. In fact, we think it's a vital part of the school day. Children who eat a balanced healthy diet are more alert in class and have more energy to enjoy an active lifestyle.

Sunderland School Meals Service are experts at providing tasty nutritious food and all food is freshly made by hand each day to ensure the best possible quality.

For a detailed Lunch Time Menu for 2008/2009 please click here.
Please note that Menus are subject to change.

The weekly cost for schools meals from September is £8.50 which is payable on a Monday morning.

Packed Lunches
If you wish your child to bring a packed lunch to school, please ask for our leaflet on Packed Lunch Guidance which is available from our main reception area.
The school will provide facilities for pupils bringing in packed lunches but you must be aware that fridge space is not available and your child's lunchbox will remain within the classroom until lunch.

Fruit Shop
George Washington Primary School has signed up for Free Fruit in Schools Initiative for children in Reception, Year 1 and 2. The scheme entitles each child to receive a free piece of fruit each school day. The fruit is fresh and of good quality. The aim is for the children to have a positive and enjoyable experience of fruit. The scheme is voluntary and there is no obligation for your child to take part.

A Fruit Tuck Shop is, however, available for our other children. A different item of fruit is sold daily at only 10p each. Please help us to keep our promise to be a healthy school by not sending in sweets, chocolate bars, crisps, etc.
