
Starting School – September 2009
Children must have reached the age of four by 31st August 2009,
that would be those children born between 1st September 2004
and 31st August 2005, before the Education Authority will admit
them to school.
You should have received an Information Pack from your child's nursery explaining how to express a preference for a primary school. Please ensure that you complete and return the Preference Form to either your child's nursery, to George Washington Primary School or to City of Sunderland, Children's Services, Civic Centre, Sunderland SR2 7DN. If you have not received an Information Pack, please contact the School Admissions team on 0191 561 1427 / 1447 / 1425 / 1399.
Forms must be received by 31st October 2008. If your form is received after this date, it may not be possible to secure a place at the school that you would prefer your child to attend .
It is also possible to apply for a school place online at : www.sunderland.gov.uk/admissionsonline and complete your application. You can do this either at home or alternatively at Peoplefirst Contact Centres, Libraries and Schools.
Past Children Events
Year 6
Year 6 children enjoyed lessons in Tai Chi. Tai Chi is self defence and meditating as well as relaxation to stimulate the mind. Tai Chi has many stances all named after animals including: snake, dragon, crane, dog and duck.
Our Year 6 children enjoyed a visit to Gateshead Odeon on Tuesday, 21st October to watch a screening of ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’.
“The Spiderwick Chronicles’ follows the Grace Family as they move into the run-down Spiderwick Estate. Once settled in their new home, peculiar things start to happen as the family find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of fairies and other fantastic creatures”.
The children will be reading the book as part of their literacy lesson.
Year 4
Year 4 children visited Blue Reef Aquarium, Tynemouth on 24th October to see an array of underwater creatures including seahorses, sharks, giant octopus, otters and hundreds of other incredible aquatic creatures.
Year 3
Year 3 children visited Cineworld, Boldon on Thursday, 23rd October to watch a screening of ‘James and the Giant Peach’.
“James is an orphan who goes to live with his two horrid aunts. When an enormous peach grows in the garden, he befriends a group of insects that help him to escape”. The film is based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale.
Year 2
Year 2 children visited The Centre for Life, Newcastle on 23rd October where the children were be able to investigate science through an imaginative programme of exhibitions and events.
